WHAT IS ARKAEVISION

Arkaevision is the Business Unit of Digitalcomoedia that develops solutions and services for the digital fruition of Cultural Heritage. Arkaevision brings solutions and services for the digital fruition of Cultural Heritage through the use of Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR).

The heart of its activity is the integrated digital platform named after it, which offers innovative ways of fruition of Cultural Heritage, allowing an augmented experience, not a substitute for, but supplementary to its classical fruition.

Through the use of the enabling technologies and experiential modes of Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR), Arkaevision aims to accompany the user, before, during and after the visit, on a personalized path that enhances the fruition and experience of the Cultural Attractor.

AUGMENTED FRUITION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE

Arkaevision enables new ways of experiencing cultural heritage, through the creation of experiential and cinematic solutions, increasing the level of involvement of the user who is immersed in freely explorable scenarios of different historical periods, in which he/she has the opportunity to meet ambassadors of ancient times: digital actors with whom it becomes possible to interact.

IMMERSIVE SCENARIOS

These are thematic virtual environments in which visitors can be immersed by interactively illustrating "scenes" that allow them to experience stories associated with an artifact, a work of art, and characters from the past, resulting in the production of a customizable cultural entertainment event. In order to make the experience verisimilar, all the elements that make up the environment, such as architecture or natural surroundings, respect the current and historical reality of the scenarios to the smallest detail.

DIGITAL ACTORS

Through his journey of discovery of cultural heritage, the user encounters "living" characters who interact with him and participate in his experience of fruition, guiding him, talking to him, and showing him points of interest. Interaction with the protagonists of the story being told enriches the experience with a new level of immersiveness, in which the user goes from being a mere spectator to an actor in his own cultural journey.

INTERACTIVE STORYTELLING

Storytelling is one of the fundamental pillars of innovative methodologies for the enjoyment of cultural heritage.
Arkaevision expands the experience of Cultural Heritage by revealing the stories associated with it in the era of its creation. This is possible through adaptive narrative paths, determined by the choices that the user effects through a natural interaction paradigm and according to a previously defined "user profile."

STAGES OF AN ARKAEVISION PROJECT

The creation of a virtual environment takes advantage of the most modern techniques made available to CG artists to acheive a credible result that allows for true immersion and has historical consistency. This requires following a well-defined implementation process. By way of example, below are some of the crucial steps.

PREPRODUCTION

This phase is characterized by careful historical-archaeological and artistic research, the fundamental starting point from which the art department’s draftsmen must build character and setting artwork.

PRODUCTION

At this stage, the modeling team, starting with the artwork, transforms 2d images into 3d models optimized for Virtual Reality, this is when the environments and characters begin to come to life.

IMPLEMENTATION

Finally, after the visual content has been realized, all the animations, both procedural and script-based, necessary for the movement and interaction of the virtual characters in the virtual scene with the user, are produced using body and face motion-capture techniques.
